What common repairs cost
Typical U.S. shop prices including parts and labor, rounded. Dealer rates run higher; independents lower. Get the written estimate before you request a loan — then borrow that, plus a little.

Twenty minutes that can cut the bill
- Ask for the estimate in writing, parts and labor separatedThen ask which items are "must do now" and which can wait a month.
- Get a second quote by phoneRead the first estimate to another shop. Thirty percent swings are normal.
- Ask about remanufactured or aftermarket partsOften half the price of OEM, with a warranty.
- Ask if the shop offers a payment planMany independents split a large job over 2–3 payments at no cost.
- Check your warranty and your cardPowertrain warranties outlast most people's memory; some credit cards extend them.
Borrow the estimate, not a round number
A $1,200 transmission quote often becomes $1,350 once the shop finds the cracked mount. Borrow the quote plus about ten percent — and nothing more, because every extra $100 costs roughly $20 in interest over a year.
Good reasons to borrow
- The car is how you get to work or school
- Waiting makes it worse (brakes, cooling, belts)
- The repair costs less than a month of rides
Pause and think
- Repair cost is near the car's value
- It's the third big repair this year
- You'd be borrowing to keep a second car

Can I get a car repair loan with bad credit?
Yes. There is no minimum credit score; lenders in our network weigh income and checking-account history. Expect a higher APR than a prime borrower, and still far less than a payday or title loan. Bad credit loans
Is this a title loan?
No. A title loan uses your car as collateral and can take it if you miss payments. Zebit installment loans are unsecured — the car stays yours regardless — with fixed monthly payments instead of a 30-day balloon.
How fast can I pay the mechanic?
Sign before the lender's afternoon cutoff and funds typically land in your checking account the next business morning. Most shops take a debit card or bank transfer; some will release the car on proof of the pending deposit.
Should I repair or replace the car?
A common rule: if one repair costs more than half the car's value, or you've had three major repairs in a year, the money may be better spent toward a replacement. A loan can go toward either — but borrow for one plan, not both.
